Increasing Your Influence

  When you come into a situation that seems impossible or will be very, very difficult to accomplish, how do you react?  Better yet, do you dream about what you want or desire to become, but think that it probably will never happen? 

   The apostles ran into a situation like that when a massive number of people were following Jesus to hear what He had to say and for many, to be healed.  It was getting late in the day and they were gathered out in a remote countryside, away from the local towns’ markets.  The apostles began counting heads, realizing that they honestly did not have the financial nor the food capabilities to feed the more than 5000 men, women and children.   Nearly a year’s wages was the minimum amount of funds needed and they did not have any ATMs to pull out the necessary money (nor cell phones to call area friends to bring food).  

   Jesus told them to feed the people when the food issue was brought up.  Was that meant to be a joke or Jesus’ dry humor?  There was no way the apostles could feed that size of crowd.  What is significant is all four gospels record this story (Matthew 14, Mark 6, Luke 9 and John 6:1-13).  Very few episodes of Jesus’ life are actually recorded in all four.  It is as if God is telling us to listen close to this event in Jesus’ life.  The apostles did find a little boy who had five small loa ...
