Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16:15).
It was a good question…a pivotal question -- one that those disciples needed to be able to answer with bold confidence. And it was Peter (the lead-disciple-in-training) who correctly answered the question: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (vs.16)
Jesus taught His disciples many things. He was intentionally preparing them to begin His future church. Answering questions was certainly a part of Jesus’ training agenda; and the above question was crucial in the coming work of those disciples who would be Christ’s, world-wide “witnesses” (Acts 1:8).
Between Jesus’, opening invitation, “Come, follow me” (Matthew 4:19a)…and His Great Commissioning, “Therefore go and make disciples…” (28:19a) -- the training was daily…intense…and, essential.
Jesus would transform these “unschooled, ordinary men” (Acts 4:13a) who would later confound the established, religious leaders, who would take note that “these men had been with Jesus” (vs.13b). It was Jesus who made the remarkable difference in these disciple’s lives!
