Serving Two Masters

Complimentary Story
“He created them male and female and blessed them.  And He named them ‘Mankind’ when they were created.”  (Genesis 5:2 NIV).

In 1962, the Queen of Motown, Mary Wells had the #1 hit, Two Lovers. It seems she was perplexed because she loved two men, and she loved them “both the same.”

The first man treats her like a woman, like a queen, puts her on a pedestal and says the sweet-nothings she has always wanted to hear. He compliments her and loves her dearly.

The second man holds the confusion she feels, because he is the opposite of the first. He ignores her, berates her, diminishes her self-esteem and ignores her. She is torn because he really has her heart. Two lovers, and she is ashamed; Two lovers, and she loves them both the same.

It is interesting in life that the bad boy wins so many hearts.

There seems to be two spirits running the houses of Christianity in this day and age, and one is a bad-boy spirit. Can we love them both the same?   Do we try to serve two masters?

One Spirit promotes the God of ancient times, even before Abraham and the Jews existed, the God who created mankind, male and female. There is little gender-confusion, and the adherents of that house of God may not like God’s lack of diversity but recognize that Yahweh is God and there is no other.  He wrote the Rules.

This church tries to adhere to the Ten Commandments; and though they do not follow the Law of Moses, they show it respect.  It is, after all, God’s Law.  While the Spirit of this House invites whom they consider the sinner into their house of worship, they do so for prayers of forgiveness for their sins. This House recognizes that God makes no mistakes and sent His only Son, Jesus the Christ, to offer this House a way out, a road to salvation that does not require adherence to ancient Jewish law. This is a Spirit of inclusivity for those who pray for forgiveness of the sins they know they committed. This group does not take their children to parades celebrating sin. Can you imagine an Adulterer’s Pride Parade?

The House of the second spirit, also a house of worship, is more like “Spirit One Lite.”

This House teaches that Heaven is easy, just love one another, no matter who they are or no matter their spirit. Donate money to the church and be saved. This is a House of entertainment where Leviticus 20 is non-existent because of the spirit of all-inclusivity. The books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy are non-existent. The preacher might be openly homosexual or a pedophile, but that’s okay with the spirit of this all-inclusive church. In this form of worship, Jesus is liberal, saved Mary the Adulteress from stoning and was fine with Mary’s adultery.  This spirit does not mention that Jesus told Mary to “sin no more.”  This spirit may from time-to-time mention Sodom and Gomorrah’s fall but never mention that homosexuality was the straw that broke the camel’s back. This spirit is inclusive and teaches that God either made a mistake or has changed His mind. Heaven is an all-inclusive resort.

The House of the first Spirit respects God, respects His ways and prays for His forgiveness, that the members might make it to God’s Kingdom. This Spirit respects that Jesus did not change the Law but fulfilled it and recognizes that even then, the road to perdition is wide. The first Spirit yearns that the Ten Commandments be again placed in our courthouses like it is in the Supreme Court, that manger and Christmas scenes again be allowed in the school system like it was during the days of the Founders of this great country, and remained so until 1962 when the Supreme Court kicked God out of school. There were no school mass-shootings prior to 1962 and the divorce rate was less than 10%.

The House of the second spirit offers a very wide road to Heaven and a narrow road to perdition. Everything is wonderful, God is good. Let’s crank up the band and celebrate the “separation of church and state” and keep God out of schools and the public square. This is the spirit of “If it feels good, do it.” This is the spirit that teaches praying for forgiveness is not necessary; because what was sin is not sin anymore. We are not a Christian nation, never was and should not hurt the feelings of other religions, like Islam. Like Satanism. Like witchcraft.

“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”  -John Jay, 1745 –1829, 1st Chief Justice of Supreme Court.

In 2018 the Dallas News had a scathing report denouncing a large billboard claiming that we are a Christian nation, of which two individuals complained. The billboard was removed.

The Dallas News may be correct in 2018, but they would have been wrong in 1776 when the Founders wrote the separation clause that the second spirit abuses so much today. The House of the second spirit claims that the clause means no God in the public arena and the school system.

Only, the writers of the clause then put Bibles in the schools and the universities (Harvard and Yale) as required reading. I guess the Founders did not understand the clause they wrote, at least not as well as the liberal theologians.

The liberal theology being taught in so many churches today, that God is all-inclusive, is leading many down the path to perdition; and that is a wide path, not narrow. Actively gay bishops and pedophile priests are not okay with the Almighty.

The Dallas News was wrong, as is the ACLU and other liberal organizations who are rewriting God’s Word to more match mankind’s words and desires.

Churches have had their issues from the beginning as is evident in the first three chapters of Revelation and continue to stray today, appeasing man while insulting God. Pride parades are a slap in the face of God.

The modern church would do well to research the Founders and how important Christianity was in 1776. Below is a little proof:

“The great enemy of the salvation of man, in my opinion, never invented a more effective means of limiting Christianity from the world than by persuading mankind that it was improper to read the Bible at schools.”   -Benjamin Rush, Author, Physician, Founding Father.

“My ears hear with pleasure the other matters you mention. Congress will be glad to hear them too. You do well to wish to learn our arts and ways of life, and above all, the religion of Jesus Christ.”  -George Washington, May 12, 1779  - Speech to Delaware Indian Chiefs.

“I verily believe Christianity necessary to the support of civil society. One of the beautiful boasts of our municipal jurisprudence is that Christianity is a part of the Common Law … There never has been a period in which the Common Law did not recognize Christianity as lying its foundations.”  -Joseph Story, Harvard Speech, Supreme Court Justice, 1829.

“Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of The Redeemer of mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian. This is a Christian nation.”  -U.S. Supreme Court Decision in Church of the Holy Trinity v. United States, 1892.

“The United States in Congress assembled … recommend this edition of the Bible to the inhabitants of the United States … a neat edition of the Holy Scriptures for the use of schools.”  -United States Congress 1782, Comment about Congressionally-printed Bible.

   We cannot serve two masters.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”  (Matthew 6:24 NIV).
