Independence -- Do We Have Too Much?

   Independence. Our country wanted to grow up and become independent from England. We eventually did, but at a cost for those who fought and died in that war. Today we are an independent nation but we have had our trials — slavery, bias against other nationalities, Indians and equal rights for women to vote, own property, serve in the military and to work out of the home. We have come a long way but we still are dealing with some of these issues today.

   On a personal level, we want the freedom and independence to make our own personal choices regarding driving, employment, where we live, what we eat, who our friends are, and of course, dating.  Today, dating often comes with a “No strings/commitment attached,” yet with fringe benefits, which often translates into “sex.” Do we have too much independence with the above concepts? Let’s take a look at some of the issues facing us, as adults and young people, sex is concerned.

Abortion
    Abortion was legalized in the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. It allowed abortion for the full nine months of pregnancy, whether the pregnancy was planned or not. And it allowed women to make the sole decision to abort. The unborn child’s father has been left out of this decision. Almost 50 years later, the U.S. abortion numbers have skyrocketed — more than 61 million since 1973.
