Hope

   Hope.  Americans are in danger of losing hope.  When I tried to find out when all this would be over I was told that it would probably be next spring.  It’s like the expression from Dante’s Divine Comedy “Abandon hope all ye who enter here.”  We are told to learn to live with a “new normal.” 

   But, wait a minute.  Is not Jesus our Hope?  Are we not admonished to “be strong and of a good courage?”  Does not the Bible tell us, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee?”  Is the song by Edward Mote no longer true?  “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness...When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay.”  Does not our National Anthem say: “Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, and this be our motto, in God is our trust.”

   No, those things are all true, for those who follow Jesus, who have put their trust in Him.  But what about the Jews, how could His People be murdered by the thousands during the Great Holocaust of Hitler?  At times when Israel turned against God He raised up nations to battle against them; then later He judged that nation.  Germany murdered many Jews (and Christians), yet God judged Germany in the end.  And during the more than two thousand years since the cross, the Chur ...
