What Did Pope Francis Really Say about Same-Sex Unions?

   Pope Francis made headlines last month when he was quoted as saying, “Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out or be made miserable because of it. What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered. I stood up for that.” 

   The LGBTQ community was pleased as punch…for about five minutes. 

   The fact that Pope Francis used the word “homosexuals” and not the Orwellian-approved LGBTQ labels is interesting enough. But turns out, this quote was pulled wildly out of context. The National Catholic Register clarified that this phrase was conveniently lifted from an unpublished interview in which the pope was expressing his unapologetic disproval of same-sex relations. His affirmations of homosexuals having civil union protections under the law was concluded with a final statement, “That does not mean approving of homosexual acts, not in the least.” 

   But even without the clarification, the LGBTQ community was smart enough to detect the duplicity.
