A Spirit of Prophecy

Complimentary Story
I don’t know about you, but I grew a little bit tired of hearing the same old so-called prophets prophesying the same old things back before the two thousand twenty election. What am I talking about?  I kept on hearing that America is God’s little darling and that He is going to, in a very short time — (some even said in a few days) — expose all the corruption in America, and that the church in America was going to take dominion over our political system. Many of these same prophets have said, (one even said it was a fact), that Trump would be re-elected. I want you to know I said “amen” to it, meaning I wanted it to be so, but on the other hand I don’t know if I really believed them. I said so many times, “I guess we will have to wait and see if they are right or not.”

Those kinds of prophets and prophecies do not have any value if you don’t know for sure if you should believe them or not. Let me give you an example: If someone prophesied to you that a certain stock was going to go up and that you should invest several thousand dollars in it, most sensible people would not make the investment. However, if the stock did go up just as the prophet said, it would have served as no value to you if you never took their advice and bought the stock. Now, maybe the next time they prophesied a stock was going to go up, you might very well make an investment in it.

On the other hand, if the prophecy about the stock going up never came true, then you probably would not even pay attention to that prophet any more. I heard one pastor claiming he had a word from the Lord back in 2019 that the NFL would go bankrupt in 2020. Well, here we are in February and the Super Bowl was played. That pastor who claimed that it was “a word from the Lord” has nothing to say to me. We have many claiming to be prophets today and they all seem to say the same thing. It seems they are giving into what the people want, just as what was said in the days of Isaiah: “Who say to the seers, ‘Do not see,’ And to the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy to us right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.’” (Isaiah 30:10). It is profitable to tell people what they want to hear.

Again, I want to reiterate that all the things these prophets have said I wanted to be true, but for the most part these prophecies never bore witness in my spirit. What we have today is no different than in the days of the kings of Israel and Judah.

A king of Israel, who was named Ahab, wanted to go to war. The Bible tells us what he did. “Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, ‘Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?’ So they said, ‘Go up, for God will deliver it into the king's hand.’” (II Chronicles 18:5).  Ahab wanted the king of Judah, who was named Jehoshaphat to go with him. Jehoshaphat did not have peace with what all these prophets were saying, so they brought in another prophet of the Lord, a true one, who prophesied that Israel would be without a shepherd, meaning that Ahab was going to die in the battle. That is exactly what happened.

I am not saying that the only prophecies that are true are the negative ones, but I see the same thing happening where many of the prophets today just speak smooth things and tell the people what they want to hear. Now, some of the things these modern prophets have said I did bear witness with, especially about seeing Holy Spirit power come back to the Church and the remnant coming together and being the Church God intended for us. In fact, I have been saying that for years because God spoke it to me. We are seeing revival happening right now in our midst. Revival has to do with the Church that has grown carnal, sleepy or even lukewarm and see the life of God come back into her. God is moving and I give Him the glory for it.

I said all this to get to the main point I want to make. God has brought into my path many godly minister friends and has connected our churches together. This is the biggest group of likeminded believers I have ever known. It consists of about thirty to forty churches. It is truly a work of the Spirit of God. Most of these men and their churches are independent churches, (I like to say, “Dependent,” — dependent on the Spirit).  These minister friends really know God, and God speaks many things to them as well as to myself.

I’ll get to my point by asking these questions: Do you really think God is going to keep His true Church in the dark with what He is going to do? Do you think that God expects us to believe these men and women who are claiming they are prophets, yet their words are vague and most often don’t come true?  Do you think God is just going to let disaster come on His people without somehow letting them know so they can prepare? Do you think God would let destruction come to our beloved land of America without some kind of alert? I don’t think so. Doesn’t the Bible say, “Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7)?

There was a famine coming in the days of the early church and God used a prophet to warn them. “Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar.” (Acts 11:28).

So throughout history, God has been faithful to warn His people of something coming whether God wanted them to repent or be prepared.  God told Moses and Moses told Pharaoh that God would judge Egypt. God told Abraham He was going to destroy Sodom. He also gave Abraham time to intercede for Sodom. God told Jonah that he was going to judge Nineveh. After Jonah preached there, they repented and that city continued to exist for another hundred years after Jonah prophesied there. These are some examples the Bible has for us.

In the Church of Jesus Christ, there is a Spirit of prophecy. This is not just a prophet speaking a “prophetic word” to us, but it is the Spirit of God revealing to the body of Christ what He is going to do. It may be just bits and pieces, but the body will put them together to get a vision of what God is doing. I don’t have to be looking on the internet to find what the so-called prophets of today have to say. I know none of these people. It seems many of them have big, financially prosperous churches (profits from smooth prophecies).

I am convinced that when something big is going to happen to America, many of my minister friends and their churches will bear witness to it in their spirit.  I believe I and others in my church will get a sense from God that something is going to happen. We can then ask God for wisdom and prepare accordingly.

So to reiterate my point, I am certain that the true born again believers will not be caught by surprise by any catastrophe that comes upon our country. There will be many in our local churches and those churches we fellowship with who will sense in their spirit that something is about to happen. God may not spare us from the judgment on this nation, but He will be with us as we go through it.  After all, He is taking revenge on His enemies, not His children.  With all the signs of the end times upon us we need to heed what Jesus said in the gospels, “Watch and pray.”
