Praise is Our Armor!

Complimentary Story
Funny thing happened on the way to the post office…

Sounds like a comedic intro to some stand up act, but what happened to me today was profound. I got through 2020 without donning a mask once. This was, in part, due to my being a bit of a recluse who rarely leaves her house. But as an added measure, I always pray binding prayers before I go anywhere. I pray that God will bind any spirits of Chaos and Confusion in the place I am about to go. I pray that God will be a shield about me and allow me to fly under the radar of other people’s fear.

I went to the post office today, all prayed up. The man behind the counter was friendly and accommodating, even going the extra mile to save me some money. I was seconds away from sliding my debit card into the machine when the man suddenly said, “Do you have a mask?” I politely said, “no.” At this point, fear filled the man’s eyes. He remained calm and friendly, but he dropped everything he was holding, put his hands in the air, and slowly backed away from me until he ran into the far back wall. He stood there, hands in the air, saying, “I can’t help you!  I can’t help you!” as if this were a stick up and he were pleading for his life. Curious as to why he had been okay helping me for ten minutes, he replied, “I didn’t notice you didn’t have a mask on until this moment.”

I left the post office curious as to why the cleansing prayers had “fallen short” for the first time. As I was driving home, I inquired of the LORD and I clearly felt in my spirit that, “the cleansing prayers were sufficient for 2020, but they will not be sufficient for 2021.” I suddenly realized that an even greater unleashing of Chaos and Confusion has been poured out upon our nation and strolling into a grocery store or post office sans mask would not be the breeze it had been in 2020. I prayed and asked God, “You are my shield, my defender, and my hiding place. What do I need for 2021?”

At this precise moment, my dad called me from work to tell me a friend he hadn’t talked to in years had called him. The man had read an article about pastors who are getting official letters from government agencies, intimidating them into using the pulpit to preach the necessity of the COVID vaccines and how not getting a vaccine is a “sin.” Rather than fear mongering, my dad’s friend told him, “Praise is our armor!” And there was my answer.

Will I still pray binding prayers every time I leave my house? Yes, I will! But in addition to this, I will also be spending the first hour of every single day (whether I leave the house that day or not) immersed in worship, thanksgiving, and praise. Not a passive, “listening to Christian radio in the background while I busy myself with my to-do list full of more important tasks” but a full on, sober minded, vigilant, active participation of worship and thanksgiving.

2 Chronicles 20 tells a spectacular tale. Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, is about to go toe-to-toe with the armies of Moab and Ammon. The Word records that this was a “great multitude,” and that Jehoshaphat was terrified. So much so, he even proclaimed a national period of fasting throughout the entire region.

As the invading armies poured into Judah, Jehoshaphat amassed his troops of fighting men, but instead of warriors, he flanked the front lines with singers and musicians!  They were instructed to sing, praise God, shout, and blow shofars.

“When they began singing and praising, the LORD set ambushes against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; so, they were struck down.”

The day we all feared would one day come is now upon us. Persecution has found our shores. We must put faith over fear, praise over prosperity, supplication over safety, and Gospel over government.

We will be told not getting the vaccine is unloving and selfish, and therefore, sin. But the FEAR OF MAN is the real sin. “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” For any who are compelled to get vaccinated because they fear man…for those, getting the vaccine will be sin. Remember, “The one who loves his life loses it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.”

DO NOT FEAR!
