HR 1 requires states to automatically register eligible voters, as well as offer same-day registration. It would limit states’ ability to clean up their voter rolls by removing “registered voters” who have moved out of state, or who have passed away. Among dozens of other provisions, it would also require states to offer 15 days of early voting and allow “no-excuse” absentee balloting. The idea of absentee voting is that you have an excuse keeping you from the polls, like military deployment or hospitalization.
