The Testimony of Unclean Spirits (Part 2)

Complimentary Story
March 2022

In our previous article, we introduced Dr. Jamal Omer, a Muslim author of the book, The Road to Hypocrisy for the Coptic Orthodox, who is filled with hatred toward Christ and Christians. We encourage you to read part one of this article.

On page 81of Dr. Omer’s book, he made the following statement: “Their Christ said regarding the right of testimony and witness to the sincerity of his claim that he is the only begotten Son of God.” Next he quoted John 5:31-32: “If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. There is another who bears witness of me, and I know that the witness which he witnesses of me is true.”

Then Dr. Omer made the following astonishing statement: “Christ did not find any but the demons and the unclean spirits to bear witness of him.” When reading his book, we see that he is quoting the Bible to prove his point and asking questions. However, like most of his gullible readers, you may think that Dr. Omer is sincere when he wrote the question: “So do we believe the demons and the unclean spirits and deny the truth which is shining like the sun that Allah does not have a son or a boy?”

First, when he quoted the Bible, he never quoted the entire passage of the Bible. If he had, he would not have written his book. This is evident when we continue to read John chapter 5 and discover that Jesus stated that He does not testify of Himself but that others testified about Him. Jesus was not talking about the testimony of demons as Dr. Omer deceptively wrote in his book. We read in verse 32 that Jesus told us that the one who will testify for Him has a true testimony.

In verse 33, Jesus reminded the Jews, who wanted to kill Him not only because He broke the Sabbath but because He also made Himself equal to God, about what was written earlier in verse 18: “Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.” Jesus reminded them that John the Baptist testified that He is the Son of God. Even though John testified to this truth, Jesus assured His Jewish audience that He will not accept the testimony of man and only mentioned this so that they may be saved. Jesus proved who He is from the work of His ministry and declared in verse 36 that the testimony of the One He is speaking of is greater than the testimony of John the Baptist because it is the testimony of the Father as written in verse 37. (John 5:36-37: “But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish — the very works that I do — bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.  And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.”)

Jesus also pointed out to the Jewish crowd that the Old Testament books testified of Him. This brings us to the fulfillment of the promise I wrote about in part one  of this article. First, let us look at the testimony of the Old Testament prophets. I will only give a couple examples. In Isaiah 9:6, written 700 years before our Lord came in the flesh, Prophet Isaiah wrote: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”

The following prophecy was given by Prophet David when he wrote: “The LORD said to my Lord, sit Thou at My right hand, until I make your enemy your footstool.”  Neither the Jews nor Dr. Omer knew what was written in the books of the Old Testament concerning our Lord and our Savior Jesus Christ.

Let us look at the testimony of the angels. Dr. Omer, like all Muslims, believes in the virgin birth of Jesus, not because it is logical but simply because the Qur’an said so. In Qur’an 19:16: Allah said, “And remember in the book [the Gospel] Mary, when she went apart from her family to an eastern place....” Now, does Dr. Omer or any other Muslim believer bother to read the true biblical account about what Allah is talking about here? The answer is absolutely no. If Muslims had investigated the true biblical account, they would have found that the testimony of the angels clearly declared that Jesus is the Son of God. Then they would have found the true triune God.
In Luke 1:30-35, we read: “Then the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.  And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.  He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.  And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.’ Then Mary said to the angel, ‘How can this be, since I do not know a man?’ And the angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is be born will be called the Son of God.’”

The clear testimony of the angels was that Jesus is the Son of God and is the second Person of the trinity. How about the testimony of God the Father Himself? In Luke 3:21-22, when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, we read: “When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened.  And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, ‘You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.’” This is one of many Bible passages in which the Father spoke audibly and declared that Jesus is His beloved Son. I wonder why Dr. Omer ignored all the testimonies of the prophets of the Old Testament, the angels, John the Baptist, the eyewitnesses of the body of believers in the New Testament, and more importantly the testimony of God the Father to the deity of our Lord and our Savior Jesus Christ.

Also, why did Dr. Omer lie when he stated that the only ones who testified that Jesus Christ is the Son of God were the demons and the unclean spirits? This was simply a quick response to his false claim. We encourage you to study this fundamental doctrine by simply reading the true word of God in the Holy Bible.
