Trial By Fire

   “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:19 ESV).
 
   There is a pervasive and false view among many that this Christian walk is a life of total reward and prosperity. This false and shameful doctrine even has its own name, we call it the “prosperity gospel.”  The prevailing theme among its purveyors and peddlers is that Jesus has provided all your wants and desires and you just have to claim them. Often the way you claim them, according to those who push this ungodly nonsense, is by “sowing a seed” into their ministry,  that you might reap the bountiful harvest God has for you. That sounds a whole lot like the Nigerian prince scam — that if you just send the thousand-dollar good faith deposit, sometimes on iTunes cards, you will quickly be mailed off all those millions you have been “left”  by your royal family in Nigeria. While I believe we do have to claim the promises of God, we do not do it with a good faith deposit or a thousand-dollar “seed of faith,” but we do it by accepting God at His Word by Faith at the direction of the Holy Spirit.
