Come Walk With Us (Part 5)

   We have shared how God took us from not being willing to start walking, even though we knew He wanted us to do it, to the point of finally being ready to leave. It is our hope and prayer that the way God helped us through our experiences will be an encouragement to you. We are plain ordinary people that the Lord reached down and provided for, protected, and helped in many wondrous ways.

   We knew the walk through Illinois would be a real time of testing! The first day of the walk was eventful. The day was warm and sunny but the humidity was down and walking was pleasant. There was a lot of small wildlife that we were able to enjoy. Animals you never see while driving.  Hadassah nearly stepped on a snake. She did not react to badly to the snake. Mostly because we were too busy swatting mosquitoes off each other!  I have never seen so many mosquitoes in my life. As soon as we got to the edge of a conservation area they swarmed us! The air was alive with these hungry insects that converged on us within seconds. We took turns hitting them off each other. This was quite a feat,  because the road had turned to mostly sand, making walking and pulling the cart difficult, and we were trying to move faster than we had all day. All we could do was try and keep them off each other as best we could. Of course, the bug spray was buried in the gear and there sure wasn’t any stopping to dig ...
