Laboring in Vain

   Psalm 127:1-2 says it best, “Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain, unless the Lord watches over a city, the watchman stays alert in vain...”

   The word “vain” is a very strong word. It means “producing no result; useless.” Wow!  How sad it will be when one worked so hard all their life and then find out that at the end everything was in vain. Why? Because the Lord wasn’t involved in the decision making. All our beautiful homes and big bank accounts mean nothing when our Creator wasn’t the one handing out the blessings. It’s man’s attempt to exalt themselves, instead of giving praise to the Father for His strength to us so we can build our houses. 

   The house in this verse isn’t just a literal house but a home. From the church house to the family house to the White House,  it seems most of our houses are built in vain.  When pastors have no conviction or fire in their sermons, it is a sign that the church is in vain.  When marriages are slapped together because of lust, convenience, or “just because,” then it is in vain. When the government is no longer blessed by Father God then we have a serious problem and our nation is a nation run in vain.
