Is Jeremiah's Lament America's?

   My wife and I just finished a long study of the Book of Jeremiah and Lamentations.  Throughout both books, although Jeremiah is warning, lamenting and weeping over the fall of Jerusalem and Judah to their Babylonian enemies, I could not help but see the similarities to America’s current plight and that of the Church in America.  

   Our nation’s moral decay parallels that of the Church in America.  As the Church has traveled, so has the country.  Sin arises and prevails where the Church and its members allow it to prosper.  By almost any measure used by pollsters in the last few years, the Church in America is rapidly declining, not only in numbers, but in the Biblical worldview of its members.

   Yes, there are carveouts of strong Bible-believing churches with strong leadership, but they seem to be few in number compared to those churches and their leadership that have compromised the Gospel in order to fit in to the society around them.  Such an approach to ministry has allowed sin to flourish and engulf the Church and dimmed its light of witness in the midst of darkness.
