The Sin of Silence

Why is it that Christians seem to be losing the so-called culture war over the moral standards that will govern our nation?  The reason is our silence.  Silence in the face of evil is evil itself.  The life of Esther offers an answer.  Faced with the extinction of her people, the Jews, Esther raised her voice and brought about a great deliverance for her people.  She placed her life,  position and possessions at risk to speak out against Haman’s wicked genocidal scheme.  Paul writes to Timothy, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”  (2 Timothy 3).

“But if salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?  It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”   (Matthew 5:13).  When a Christian says “I don't want to make any waves, I just want to remain neutral when it comes to influencing society,” they have already been influenced by society.  If we don’t flavor the world, the world will flavor us — and our children.  If we do not preserve God’s truth, we will be trampled by the world’s lies.  Silence corrupts God’s Word.  Speaking truth brings God glory.  The business of a faithful church does not shift to suit the times.  Paul was imploring Timothy to continue teaching the Word of God even when it seemed “out of season.”  When people demanded instead to have their ears tickled.

No longer does the Church influence society — rather society is influencing the Church.  We live in a culture that increasingly fails to value God’s Word but, also, mocks it at every turn.  Sadly Bible truth is counter cultural in our nation, where eight in ten American identify as Christians, while less than  one in ten believe the Bible’s foundational truth about God.  According to George Barna from Cultural Research Center, only thirty seven percent of pastors hold a biblical worldview.  Only twelve percent of youth pastors hold a biblical worldview.

Like the times of the judges in ancient Israel, people are making their own rules.  In Judges 17:6 and 21:25 the writer sums up precisely why it was such a miserable time.  Everyone did what was right in their own eyes.  “Find your own truth” or “follow your heart.”  But according to Scripture that is foolish.  Proverbs 28:26.  Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool.  The idea that everyone should get to define for himself what is right and true is a recipe for disorder and disaster.  It is a definition of anarchy.  Western society was built on beliefs that are rooted in Scripture.  The weight of the Declaration of Independence hangs on truths about God and His creation.  Judge Moore, the judge from Alabama who, in 1996, stood up to the Ten Commandments being removed from his courtroom.  He stated “God is the foundation of American Law of all Law. Laws establish standards which define justice and morality for a society.  Without an acknowledgment of God we will lose our civil and religious liberties.  Our liberties are not found in government.  Government is merely there to secure the liberties that God gave us.”  God demands of us our faith.

How did we get here?  Articles of faith met with skepticism, authority despised, feelings count more than facts, common sense out the window, morals and knowledge itself are scorned as relics of the past.  There is a zero tolerance for moral absolutes in a climate like this.  We didn’t put up much of a fight when the Ten Commandments were taken out of public schools and the courtrooms, or prayer taken out of public schools.  Not much was said in the majority of churches over the sixty two million aborted babies since 1973.  Now we are beat down by “cancel culture,” “political correctness,” “tolerance,” “diversity,” “inclusion,” “equity,” and “welcoming” under a twisted sense of “love.”  We are afraid to speak up in fear of being called a bigot, racist, intolerant, and being insensitive and uncompassionate.

Speech was once fought mainly with contradictory speech and debate, but cancel culture seeks to fight speech with far more severe weapons.  It fights opinions by seeking to ruin peoples’ livelihood and reputations.  This is a move away from free debate toward totalitarian control.  We need people who are unwilling to go along with sacrificing truth at the altar of a pretended tolerance.

By redefining absolute truth for the sake of “tolerance” and moral conviction as “hate,”  the goal of the political correctness movement is to appear open and accepting.  Yet we realize that the most difficult form of evil is to recognize its deception.  That is why there are many repeated warnings in the Bible.  “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked.  Whatever a man sows, that he will reap.”  (Galatians 6:7).

When intolerance to the truth is heightened, the need for shepherds to open the Bible and declare its truth boldly is greater than ever.  Churches that tone down the message to accommodate the spirit of the age are playing into the enemy’s scheme.  We need to be Christian soldiers, not people pleasers.  There seems to be widespread confusion in the Christian church on how to respond to the spiritual free falling we are witnessing.  Many consider sin as a gray area.  Some Christians expect the church to condone almost every despicable act imaginable, all in the name of a form of twisted love.  Do we value God’s opinion more than the views of those around us?  Are we willing to face charges that slander and demean us when we know we are doing our Savior’s business?  If we are not willing to stand we are not worthy of the One who stood in our stead, according to Matthew 16:24.

We are to speak in love, but speak.  In Ephesians 22: 30-31  it states, “I looked in vain for anyone who would build against the wall of righteousness that guards the land, who would stand in the gap and defend you from just attacks, but I found no one.  And so, the Lord says....I have heaped upon you the full penalty for all your sins.”  The fact is there is an eternal right and wrong.  Some shepherds say they will speak on current issues when God directs them to.  Their duty is to proclaim the gospel.  The gospel means “good news.”  The gospel in the broad sense is the whole of Scripture and the narrower of the gospel is the good news concerning Christ and the way of salvation.  We need to hear God’s truth on current issues in our country and world.  The unsaved and the saved need to hear the biblical truth about current issues.  We need to hear God’s truth to come to repentance.  We are all in need of repentance.  The unsaved need to hear God’s Word in love and truth to repent and come to a saving faith.  The saved need to hear God’s truth in order to repent and with the Holy Spirit’s help become stronger in loyalty to the Lord to face the trials ahead and to be a  more effective witness to others.  Seems to be more preaching on God’s love, grace, justification and not enough on sanctification.  Some shepherds will say “no politics in church.”  Isn’t God the God of everything?  God’s law is supreme.  The government’s law is subservient to God’s law.  Myself and many people I speak to wonder why the shepherds do not speak out with God’s truth on current issues.  We ponder...not wanting to offend, no politics in church, we will lose our 501-C3, some members will not like it, popularity, members might leave and membership numbers will go down, or church board tells them not to speak out.  It must be a difficult decision to make, but I believe the Lord is crying out for shepherds to lead the flock.  The Lord tells us so many times in Scripture not to fear, but rather to trust Him.  People need to hear and be led by God’s truth for every circumstance now more than ever.  The Church needs to organize and encourage members to fight back in prayer and action against infringements on our liberties and freedoms.  Know the truth and stand.  If these current moral issues aren’t addressed the globalists, progressive left, and lies in social media will eat us alive and will lead our people into moral starvation.  If we didn’t have the combination of politics and religion in our past history we wouldn’t have a republic today.

Churches need shepherds to stand for righteousness and justice, then reaching out to their people and encourage them to stand alongside them.  When shepherds are courageous the members will be courageous.  Courage is contagious!  We need to be soldiers for Christ to stand in the gap in the spiritual war.  Instead, we have an unrepentant generation.  Sin has not been called out.  We need to blow a loud blast on the trumpet of biblical repentance.

We need shepherds with the Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other.  We are under obligation to call other sinners to repentance and to proclaim the truth of the gospel boldly through our lives and in our public testimony.  It is good for people to be confronted of their sin in love and humility in order that they may be helped through their problem with kindness and acceptance of responsibility.   Hearing the truth can hurt, but it brings repentance, healing, comfort and appreciation for God’s great love and forgiveness for us.

Are some church programs really “outreach” or are they subtly structured “in reach” where few actually go out and get their hands dirty?  Is the true Church a ship in an isolated “harbor of holiness” floating to maintain a certain image in the community or does it LEAVE the harbor risking the loss of its unwilling crew?  Of the seven churches mentioned in the book of Revelation only two were not criticized or condemned.  One was evangelizing and the other was suffering persecution.

Humanity’s problem is that because of our sin we resist accountability to God.  Because fallen minds refuse to see what is obvious, they lose their ability to make sense of anything.  Romans 11: 28-32.  God turned them over to a depraved minds.

“Real love involves hatred.  If we do not hate evil we are not being charitable.  We cannot allow fear of offending people to obstruct our duty to speak the truth unambiguously for the sake of saving souls.”  (Father James Altman).

Are we carnal Christians?  Viewing our “faith” as nothing more than a get out of hell free card?

I have heard more lies from social media, corrupt legislators, doctors, CDC, WHO, FBI, Dr. Fauci, CEOs of hospitals making the doctors follow protocols that gave them bonus money and killed patients, the progressive Left, the CCP, and the Biden Administration in the last two and half years than I have my entire life.  COVID was engineered, which is proven, and I believe intentionally thrown out onto the world to bring us into submission with fear.  Face masks are proven to be ineffective which was another tool used for control.  Small businesses, churches and schools should never have been shut down.  Dr. Fauci pushing vaccines that were not FDA approved in the US and totals of deaths and adverse reactions, some of which were permanently debilitating not being reported and purposely ignored.  Bill Gates wanting our population reduced and using measures against humanity to bring that to fruition.  Why were thousands of doctors across the world using treatments that were effective and their voices were stifled?

Klaus Schwab, founder of World Economic Forum, spells it all out in his two books  COVID 19 — The Great Reset came out in July of 2020.  Schwab’s book is the script for what happened with the fear control of COVID.  His second  book just came out called, The Great Narrative.”  He spells it all out.  The globalists’ goal is to have world government up and running by 2030.  This is an agenda of evil by this present administration, the global elitists, and Satan himself.  The BLM, ANTIFA able to start fires, pillage, and plunder cities across the US with ZERO ramifications, erase history, defund police, open borders, critical race theory, Project 1619, purging the military with vaccine mandates, lies about “climate change” and the stolen presidental election.  Watch “2000 Mules” by Dinesh De Souza for total proof of theft of election.
We are a world of lawlessness, no justice or little to none for crimes committed, vaccine mandates to control the people which harmed and killed many, LGBTQ+ priming our children with gender confusion in their early years.  When will we speak out?!

There is a demonic agenda out there and very FEW shepherds will raise their voices on contemporary moral issues.  That is a great tragedy.  God needs men who will speak out on the great issues of the day.  Martin Luther said “If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the word of God except precisely that little part which the world and the devil are at that point attacking, I am not confessing Christ however boldly I may be professing Christ.  Where the battle rages there the loyalty of the soldier is tested.  To be steady in all the battlefields besides is mere flight and disgrace, if the soldier flinches at that one point.”  Thank God for David, Gideon, Esther, Noah, Moses, Martin Luther, all the martyrs and brave men and women who stood and some gave their lives for God's righteousness.  They stepped out in trust, love, obedience and in boldness.  Yes, God is sovereign.  Yes, God is in control.  Yes, the Father sacrificed Jesus to pay our sin debt.  God is a just God, loving, gracious, forgiving, leading, slow to anger, merciful and mighty, wishing all to be saved.  God is a just God, He hates sin and He will not be mocked.

We were born for a time as this.  There is a great conflict for the soul of our nation.  Christ wants us to put on the armor and be a soldier for Him.  Whether you are a shepherd, elder, and all Christians get out of the bleacher and onto the field to become a participant in one the greatest struggles in the history of the world.

I have taken quotes from D. James Kennedy, John McArthur, Adrian Rodgers, Tom White from Voice of the Martyrs, Billy Graham, and my own words to formulate this letter.  Some of the older articles were from 1996 warning the churches to speak up — and here we are 25 years later.  God help us all to be God's hands, feet and voice in this battle for souls.

Proverbs 27: 5-6, “Open rebuke is better than love carefully concealed.  Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”  It’s better to speak truth that hurts and then helps than falsehood that comforts and then kills.  (Proberbs 27:6).

Galatians 4:16 - Paul says, I am not your enemy when I tell you the truth.  It is better to be divided by truth than united in error.

I Corinthians 13:1 - Exhorts or confronts the opposition with sound doctrine in love.

Isaiah 41:10 - “Do not fear, for I am with you.  Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you.  I will
uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
