What About Babylon?

We know that ancient Babylon was in modern-day Iraq, and that today, the city is in ruins. But in the book of Revelation, Babylon is mentioned repeatedly. What does Babylon refer to in the end times?

First off, the Book of Revelation tells us that the city of Babylon will be rebuilt once again. Bible scholars are divided as to whether or not the city of Babylon itself will actually be rebuilt again. If we accept this writing as literal then that is exactly what it is saying. That would mean that the city of Babylon will be rebuilt so God can destroy it right off the face of the earth.
The ancient city of Babylon is located in the present day country of Iraq. In the past, Saddam Hussein attempted to rebuild the city but he was stopped because of the first Gulf War. Whether the new Iraqi government will eventually begin that project again is anyones guess.
God has some MAJOR settling up to do with the city of Babylon. Some Bible scholars believe God is going to allow it to be rebuilt, just so that He can totally destroy it Himself - God hates it that much. If we look at the Book of Genesis, the city of Babylon was the first place that man started to worship himself - and rebell against God.
