Is Christmas Really a Pagan Holiday?

Every year we hear people state that Christmas is a pagan holiday. People seem to have good arguments on both sides of this issue. Should Christians celebrate Christmas, and if so, how should we celebrate? Or is Christmas really a pagan holiday that displeases the Lord?

When we, as Christians, talk about Christmas becoming a pagan holiday, we actually have it turned around a bit.
Originally Christmas was a pagan Roman holiday celebrating the turn around of the shortening days at the winter solstice. It was the Christians who adopted this celebration and added celebrating the birth of Christ. Neither Jesus, nor any of the apostles, nor did the early church celebrate Christmas or the birth of Christ. On top of all this, it is not likely that Jesus was even born anywhere near that time of year - His birth was more likely in the month of September after all the reasearch is said and done.
So the next question would be, is it wrong for a true believer, a true Christian to celebrate Christmas? Honoring and remembering Gods greatest gift to mankind - the birth of His only Son, Jesus - is still honoring and remembering the Lord.
