Camping For Children with Special Needs: Coming Soon To A Town Near You! Crossroads Medical Outreach

A few months ago, I wrote an article describing Eagle Cove an outreach to children with special medical conditions who would not be able to attend a normal camping program. This facility will reach out to youth with cardiac conditions, cancer and much more; sharing the Gospel with them as they participate in traditional camp activities tailored to meet their specific needs.

We are still seeking the necessary permits and, after that, we will begin construction of a state-of-the-art facility designed for these special youth and their families. And, while we have the financial support in place thanks to a generous family who is donating the land and facility, we are still a few years out from being able to offer a residential camping program.

Unfortunately, the need wont wait!

According to the American Heart Association, eight out of every 1,000 children are born with some sort of cardiac defect. Of those, approximately 5% will die from complications due to their medical condition. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 16 out of every 100,000 children will have cancer. Cardiac defects are the number one cause of death for children under the age of 14 with cancer as the second leading cause. There is a clear need to minister to youth with these conditions and to their families.
