Opportunities or Roadblocks

How should we pray when difficulties or changes in our lives occur? Do you look at change or difficult situations as opportunities or roadblocks? These are not easy questions to answer because life is not an easy path to follow, for we will experience tough times in our lives. Sometimes difficult situations and changes occur due to decisions we make; but also due to circumstances beyond our control.

A young Jewish husband, Aquila and wife, Priscilla were thrust into a difficult situation when the Roman ruler Claudius ordered Jews to leave Rome in Acts 18:1-19 and they ended up in Corinth. It is likely that Priscilla and Aquila were Christians in Rome and Paul heard about them when he arrived in Corinth. Paul, Priscilla and Aquila were all tentmakers, so there were natural connections between them.

Now the question could be asked whether Priscilla and Aquila would have ended up in Corinth if they would not have been run out of Rome. It is possible that they may not have left Rome and never connected with Paul. God does work all things out for His good. Sometimes it is very difficult to be obedient to changes in our lives because we do not know what will happen and we have a level of comfort in our lives when there is no change. When we pray during these times, it is important to seek Gods direction and insight. We need to pray for strength, endurance, patience and a continued focus on Jesus Himself.
