Temptation and Sin Right Around the Corner

If we played the word association game and I said, What is the first thing you think of when I say, King David?, you may very well reply, Bathsheba. Davids life is definitely marked by the episode of his life that involved Bathsheba, but the truth is he could have prevented it from ever happening.

In 2 Samuel 11: 1-5 we read this story. In the Spring of the year, it was the custom for the kings to go out to war. You get the impression that it was the normal ritual after hibernating during winter, that kings got their spears and troops ready to find some wars to fight. This year David was a little tired and had done it enough times that he stayed home in Jerusalem while his army went to do his dirty work.

In other words, David was in the wrong place at the wrong time. How often do any of us who are in the wrong place at the wrong time get into trouble? David was not where he was suppose to be. Watch out when out of your mouth comes, You know Mom and Dad, I know what is best for me or When I get old enough or That wont happen to me. Everyone one else is weak and cant handle it! David opened himself up for spiritual attack.

In verse two we read that one evening during this time, David could not sleep so he took a walk on his roof. Walking on your roof is an everyday, normal occurrence for many people.
