Creation's 'Helicopter'

Today Im going to share some things about a very special creature in Gods creation. Anyone who spends time outdoors or enjoys gardening and flowers probably has been witness to an amazing critter, a very beautiful but tiny bird. When one of these special little critters gets near to us, the first thing we recognize is the distinctive humming sound that comes from the rapid beating of its tiny wings. This is the hummingbird.

This birds wings beat so fast that some believe that the birds have transparent wings like the wings of a dragonfly. God designed them with specialized wings, but their wings still have feathers just like all other birds. Hummingbirds are a small bird of the Trochilidae family. Their wings beat at the incredible rate of 60 to 80 beats per second, producing a unique insect-like humming sound from which they get their name.

The hummingbird is the smallest of birds and also the smallest of all animals that have a backbone. Surprisingly, even though they feed largely on the nectar of flowers, hummingbirds have no sense of smell. They cant find a flower by scent - only by sight. For that reason hummingbirds are attracted to bright colors, especially red. Hummingbirds can rotate their wings in a circle, making them the only bird that can fly forward, backward, and sideways, and that can hover in midair. Incredibly, they can even fly upside down for short distances. Try that with a man-made helicopter - yih haaaa!
