Lot's Choices

Life is full of choices. With the technological advances in our world and the oversaturation of media speaking into our lives, there are more choices than ever available to people in every corner of the world. It is easy to feel overwhelmed with so many choices.

What are good, right choices versus choices that will lead you to bad or terrible endings? If you are a Christian, we do have the Bible that has great guidelines in making choices. Lot, who was a nephew of Abraham, faced a huge choice that affected his family and him the rest of their lives. For quite a while, Abraham and Lot had livestock of their own, but both men allowed each others flocks and herds to graze together. Eventually the livestock numbers were too large to support what grazing land was available and even the hired help of both Abraham and Lot were getting into fights with each other.

So Abraham told his nephew that he could choose what land he wanted to graze, develop and increase his herds and flocks. Wherever Lot chose, Abraham would go somewhere else (Genesis 13:1-9). Lot looked around and saw that a plain near the Jordan River was perfect land to raise his animals. He did not bother to check out what people were living in that area and if they were good people. Lots eyes simply locked onto the plush, money-making land by the Jordan River (Genesis 13:10-13).

If he would have done some investigating, Lot would have found out that the land that was so perfect ...
