Who is the Beast of Revelation? (Series continues)

11)  Is the Papacy “different” than the other horns of Dan. 7?  Yes, it is a completely different kind of power than the ‘nations’ of Europe, symbolized by the 10 horns.  It’s sole claim to power rests in its claim that Christ gave it its charter, and so all power on earth is hers.

12)  Did the Papacy “think” to change God’s law in relation to “time?”
   a) Doctrinal Catechism, chap. 2, p. 174,  Stephen Keenan: (on the obedience due to the Church)--- “Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her -- she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is NO scriptural authority.”
   b)  The Faith of Our Fathers, p. 72-73  James Cardinal Gibbons (1917) “Is not every Christian obliged to sanctify Sunday, and to abstain on that day from unnecessary servile work?  Is not the observance of this law among the most prominent of our sacred duties?  But you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and you will NOT find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday.  The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify.”
   c) The Catholic Mirror, Sept. 23, 1893, “The Catholic Church for over a thousand years before the existence of a Protestant, by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.”
   d)  Catholic Mirror, Dec. 23, 1893  James Cardinal Gibbons -- “Reason and sense demand the acceptance of one or the other of these alternatives; either Protestantism and the keeping holy of Saturday OR Catholicism and the keeping holy of Sunday.  Compromise is impossible.”
   e)  Question Box p.254-255, 1903 ed.   Conway
   Q. “What Bible authority is there for changing the Sabbath from the 7th day to the 1st day of the week?  Who gave the Pope the authority to change a command of God?”
   A.  “If the Bible is the only guide for Christians, then the Seventh-day Adventist is right in observing the Saturday with the Jew. But Catholics learn what to believe and do from the divine, infallible authority established by Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church.”
   f)  The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, 2nd Ed., p50 (1910)
   Q.  Which is the Sabbath day?
   A. Saturday is the Sabbath day.
   Q. Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
   A. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea (AD 326), transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.
   g)  Catholic Virginian, Oct. 3, 1947, “Nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday.  We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is the seventh day of the week, Saturday.  Today most Christians keep Sunday, because it has been revealed to us by the church (Roman) outside of the Bible.”
   h) Rome’s Challenge (Why do Protestants keep Sunday), p.27  (1893), “Thus it was the inconsistency of the Protestant practice with the Protestant profession that gave to the Catholic Church her long sought and anxiously desired ground upon which to condemn Protestantism  and the whole Reformation movement as only a selfishly ambitious rebellion against church authority.  And in this vital controversy, the key, the chiefest and culminative expression , of the Protestant inconsistency was in the rejection of the Sabbath of the Lord, the seventh day, enjoined in the Scriptures, and the adoption and observance of the Sunday as enjoined by the Catholic Church.”

13)  Did the Papacy rule for 1260 years?
There are 7 texts in the Bible referring to the same time period as in Rev. 13:5, the length of time the “beast” rules. Here they are:
• Dan. 7:25= a time, times, and the dividing of time
• Dan. 12:7= a time, times, and a half (a time)
• Rev. 11:2= forty and two months
• Rev. 11:3= 1260 days
• Rev. 12:6= 1260 days
• Rev. 12:14= a time, times, and half a time
• Rev. 13:5= forty and two months
If 42 month equals 1260 days, then each month has to be 30 day months, as they were in Israel.  In the phrase “a time, times, and half a time,” the word ‘time’ comes from the word for “year.”  Thus one year, twelve months of 30 day months, would equal 360 days. Thus:
• Time = 360 days
• Time(s) = 720 days
• Half a time = 180 days
Add all these up, and it equals 1260 days.  You can see that all 7 of these periods of time are the same, whether the length of rule of the “beast” or the “little horn.”
