Salt

   Why do you put salt on food?  To give it a certain flavor or where there is no refrigeration, to preserve the food.  It is rather interesting that Jesus used salt to illustrate the responsibility of being a Christian.  “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.”  (Matthew 5:13)
   Why did Jesus talk about being salt and light?  As Christians, we are to give people a flavor of what Jesus is like.  When putting salt on food, it adds or changes the flavor of what you are eating.  Some foods taste bland until salt is added.  When we are involved in the lives of people, we should be adding something positive to their lives.  Salt can cause chemical reactions when placed on other chemicals or items.  Put salt on a piece of metal and leave it on the metal for some time.  What you have resulting is rust.  So if you put salt on the wrong thing, it can create problems or if you put too much salt on food, it can make the food not taste good.  
   If the salt stays in a container for a long time, it can lose it flavor, become hard and it has to be gotten rid of.  So salt needs to be used properly.  Christians need wisdom on how to impact their lives on others; when to say something or just listen.   When people are having a ...
