Ministering God's Word Behind Bars

HANCOCK, Wis.
   Heartcry Ministries has been ministering in the prisons since 2002. I started out by myself with a call from the Lord, and could not find a county or city jail that would let me come in and minister. I believed that I had either not heard the voice of the Spirit or that God made His first mistake [both thoughts wrong]. 
   I had talked to a man who was a Gideon.  He didn’t need any help in the county jail, but had a friend who was giving Bible studies in the Marquette County jail but was not able to continue because of an illness his wife had. I called the man and he told me that he was still able to do the study at the jail and that he didn’t need any help either. He did, however, tell me that he was supposed to be going to the Racine Youth Offenders Facility but could not go. He sent me the paperwork and application to fill out and then send in to Bill Glass Prison Ministries in Texas and to use him as a sponsor.  I did, and was accepted. 
   I really enjoyed that first experience, but at the same time was apprehensive because of all the things you hear about prisons. I got through it and went a second time with Bill Glass Ministries a while later. That time I was really impressed by the Spirit to do ministry on my own, and so I asked the Chaplain there to write me a reference letter for the prisons in my area.
