Ignorance Is No Defense

   On a trip to Israel, our tour group had the privilege of visiting Yad Vashem, the Holocaust History Museum. Although I have read numerous books about the torture, starvation, and extermination of millions of Jews and others, I never get over the shock. I’ll never be able to understand how such an atrocity could be carried out. How did the people in Germany not know that this was happening? What did they really know? How did the people of neighboring countries fail to understand? Why did the people of America not understand? 
   Was the information so well guarded? Was the truth so shocking that it was too hard to believe? Did those who knew feel too small to make a difference? Did those who knew fail to protect the innocent out of fear for their own lives? What could they have done? What should they have done? 
   Today, we hear of news reports of Christian persecution throughout the world. In a listing compiled by TheReligionofPeace.com (last updated on May 18, 2015), in the name of Islam nearly 500 Christians have been killed since the beginning of this year in targeted acts of terrorism. 
   CNN reported on May 25, 2015, that ISIS executed 262 people as it took control of Palmyra, a Syrian city. Thirteen of the victims were children.
