Satan's Ongoing Deception: 'You Can Be Like God'

   It began in a Garden…a paradise on earth with complete unity with God. It was called Eden -- the first, and last utopia on earth. 
   The great bliss in this perfect Garden was tied to the unity between God, the Creator of the universe, and mankind. Here was found Good Orderly Direction for life and love -- just as God planned it to be.
   All that changed when Satan came to disrupt this perfect common-union. The arch enemy of God posed an alternative that was deceptive and appealing. To Eve (and Adam) he said, “you can be like God” (Genesis 3:5b). 
   Adam and Eve would be replacements for God. And for the first time a “new age” alternative became a human option…to ultimately be in a state of “perfect oneness with god.”
   Now we transition to the “rest of the story” from Genesis 3 that has timeless application. A key question needs to be addressed. When Eve ate the fruit (along with Adam), did this “perfected state of being with god” take place?
   The clear answer in Genesis (and beyond into the remainder of human history) is “no!” Indeed, perfection was lost, as was the common union with God. Mankind was alienated and very much afraid. Their future went from blessed to bleak as they were separated from God, positioned for death, rather than bliss.
