The Confused American Church

   “Never, talk about religion or politics.”  We have all heard that phrase, and throughout my lifetime, it has proven to be true, that whenever either of these subjects were discussed in mixed company, conflict always arose.  You see, people have strong feelings about religion and politics... or at least they used to, because, what could be more important and sacred than God and Country?

   But things have really changed over the past generation.  There are still a few people who care about such things, but their numbers are shrinking.  And even among THEM,  unless you know who you are talking to and are pretty sure they’ll agree with you, most feel they are better off just keeping their mouths shut nowadays.  

   Today, this unspoken rule, of keeping one’s opinions to oneself, has morphed into a weird, ugly thing known as “political correctness.”  This is where we do our utmost to never, EVER be confrontational, never express an opinion about anything that differs from the popular one put forth by the mainstream culture -- that collective opinion peddled to us by government, the media, public schools, and Hollywood and Sports celebrities.  

   But the trouble with never voicing your opinion on the most important issues in the world, is pretty soon, you no longer even HAVE an opinion, because you no longer even think ...
