By using the advertising resources of American corporations and celebrities to characterize the oppressive hijab as a garment that symbolizes feminine power and freedom, they have betrayed American women. The purpose of these propaganda campaigns is to sell American women “Sharia-lite” by normalizing these garments and by pretending that Muslim women have choices, which they do not.
The hijab or the burqa in Muslim majority countries is far from glamorous clothing. Instead, these black, full body clothes are used as tools with which to control Muslim and non-Muslim women, alike.
