Crossing the Line

   God has spoken through His Word. The Ultimate Author of love  established the foundation for the “love institutions” for human beings (i.e. marriage, family and the church). God was well aware, as Creator, of our unique, human ability to share in love -- with Him, and with each other. 

   After personally fashioning Adam and Eve in “His image” (Genesis 1:27), He brought them together as husband and wife under this outline for success: “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” (2:24)

   Yes, marriage was to be a unique union between a man and a woman…a husband and wife -- within the Good Orderly Direction of God the Heavenly Matchmaker.  God “drew this line.” He did not leave room for other alternative choices.  God knew that such options would not fulfill His plan for lasting, intimate love.

   Human history gives us evidence of human efforts at “crossing the line.”  It comes under that temptation that Satan implants (as he first did with Adam and Eve) -- to “be like God, knowing good and evil” (3:5b).  Human beings are challenged in their ability to accurately differentiate between “good and evil.”
