About 'Taking a Knee'

   People with contempt for our country and what it stands for used to burn American flags. Sports figures today refuse to stand in respect to the American flag, or “take a knee” while the rest of us sing the national anthem.

   Far too many Americans before them “took a knee” out of respect for our country and what it stands for. They went down on their knees after bullets tore holes in their lungs and they couldn’t breathe.  They went down on their knees when they couldn’t stop their life’s blood flowing out of gaping wounds onto the ground all around them. In recent years they had a leg, or both legs, blown out from underneath them by an IED, or they couldn’t keep their innards from spilling out of their hands, and they went down on their knees.

   For some, like those in the Revolutionary or Civil War, the flag was the last thing they saw as they went down on their knees and then passed into the next life.

   But today we have NFL players and others, who just can’t bring themselves to show a bit of respect for the flag or the national anthem or our country.

   It makes me angry to think that kids across the country are looking up to some of these players as role models. It makes me very angry to think that any veterans who served our country see this when they watch a game.
