LOVE - How Do We Honor Love?

   Love. It conjures up images of Valentine’s Day chocolates, flowers, quiet dinners and intimate get aways, all the while sharing all of these with a special someone. For those who are lucky enough to have a special someone, it is one of life’s precious moments.

   For many though, Valentine’s Day is not special. There is no someone with whom to share this day. It is just another day to have some chocolate or spend alone. Not everyone has been blessed to have someone special in their lives.

    The word “love” has lost some of its meaning. Today our society uses the word love as an almost commonplace phrase: “Oh, I love this dress.” “I just love those shoes.” ”I simply love eating at this restaurant.” For younger people who seem to bet desensitized through the use of email and texting rather than face-to-face conversation, they use the word “love” without truly understanding its meaning. “I love you” to them seems to be the equivalent of LOL or CU. (“Laugh out loud” or “See you.”) This texting atmosphere has led to suicides for many young people because of cyberbullying. Love seems to be a misplaced word today.
