What is Meant by the 'True Gospel?'

   In the Greek New Testament, “Gospel” is the translation of the Greek noun euangelion “good news,” and the verb euangelizo, meaning “to bring or announce good news.”  The true gospel itself is the “good news” that God saves sinners. Us human folks are, by nature, sinful and separated from God with no hope beyond the grave.  But God provided the means of man’s redemption through the death, burial and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The word “gospel” literally means “good news.”  But in order to understand how important this “good news” is, let’s take a look at the bad news. 

   Because of mankind’s fall in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:6), every part of man, our minds, our will, our emotions and our flesh have been tainted with sin.  Because of our sinful nature, we do not and will not seek God.  We have little or no desire to seek God and n fact, our thoughts may even be hostile toward God as seen in Romans 8:7 (NIV), “The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.”  That sin in our lives dooms us to an eternity in hell, separated from God, where man pays the penalty for sin against a Holy and Righteous God.
