Remember Those Who Gave All

Complimentary Story
Another Memorial Day Holiday has come and gone.  Americans across the land did a lot of things to celebrate the Holiday and some even remembered that the intent of the Holiday is to honor and memorialize those who died in service of our Country.  On Sunday, May 27, some of us assembled at the Wisconsin Christian News Ministry Center for that purpose, and I want to report that it was one of the most meaningful and uplifting Memorial Day meetings that I have ever been privileged to attend.

We opened with a prayer for guidance and wisdom so that we might honor the dead in a way that honors God.  Several Bible verses were referenced to show that what we were about to do is indeed a Biblical concept.  They included  John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this: that he lay down his life for his friends.”  And Romans 12:15, “Rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn.”  On Memorial day we do both.  We mourn for the dead but rejoice in the ultimate victory.  1 Corinthians 15:54-55,  “Death is swallowed up in victory. Oh death, where is thy victory? Oh grave, where is they sting?”

The opening prayer was followed by a powerful DVD by Pastor Matt Hagee called “Remembering D-Day.”  His theme was from Psalm 33:12,  “Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord.”  He made the point that during World War 2 we were indeed one Nation under God. The President and commanding Generals, the troops and civilians alike, understood the concept of being one Nation under God.  But are we still?  What have we done with the sacrifice that so many made?  Americans quickly forgot Who sustained us during that terrible time of trial, and look where that has gotten us.  D-Day stands for Decision Day and TODAY we must decide if we will once more be “One Nation Under God.”  Pastor Hagee also pointed out that it cannot be done without total commitment to the cause.  We had that commitment 72 years ago and we owe a huge apology to anyone who wore the uniform during a time when we were not committed to total victory.  AMEN BROTHER!

The DVD was followed with a presentation by a Vietnam Veteran who also referenced several Scriptures to show why we must remember and honor those who died.  He honored, by name, some of the many friends he lost in Vietnam.  He pointed out that it is impossible to heal from that trauma without the help of God.  He also pointed out that Scripture says all things work together for good for them that fear the Lord, and this is a very hard concept to grasp sometimes, but we must.  Also the concept of forgiving.  It certainly is not easy to forgive those responsible for the awful mess of the Vietnam war, but when he did, the healing process was easier.  It was a powerful, Scripture-based testimony and applies to all of us whenever we are faced with serious problems.  Thank you Brother for what you did on that Sunday.  We all know it was not an easy task.

Then another Vietnam Veteran led us in praising God with singing.  He announced that our Hymnals contain seven patriotic songs and we are going to sing all of them.  Every verse.  “God Bless America”  was not in that book, but we closed by singing it anyway.  You can believe me when I tell you that people were seriously blessed and inspired by this meeting.

We also talked about the very Hymnals that we were using.  They were “rescued” from a Church that threw them out. It’s bad enough that they caved in to the false god of political correctness and stopped singing the songs that had been staples of worship for many years in most  churches, but actually discarded the entire Hymn book.  Such actions are symbolic of what is wrong with America today.  Take a good look at these Patriotic Hymns (if you can still find them) and you will see that they are PRAYERS for our nation. They fervently thank Almighty God for His many blessings and pray that God will continue to bless and protect us as we strive to honor Him in everything we do. The Bible clearly commands us to pray for our leaders and our Nation so it is ironic to hear an occasional prayer for our leaders by the same people who throw out these precious prayers set to music.

At the May 29 meeting of the Salt and Light Brigade, Coach Dave Daubenmire made an excellent point.  He read from the Bible where Fathers are given the task of teaching the laws of God to their children.  The World War 2 era is often referred to as the “Greatest Generation,”  but they made one huge mistake. They failed to talk to their children about the God who sustained us and blessed us mightily with peace and prosperity.  It did not take long for Satan to take advantage of this — and look at the mess we are in now.  We are a Nation under assault.   Not from military forces at this time, but the forces of evil are attacking us everywhere we look.   Babies murdered by the millions, sexual perversion being taught as normal, Islam being heralded as a “religion of peace” and worst of all, the vicious assault on the God-ordained family.  It’s bad enough that most churches avoid these issues, but many are now actually ENDORSING the sinful behavior and some even PARTICIPATE in the “Gay Pride” parades.  It is all made possible because we have failed to teach the laws of God to our children and failed to teach the truth about the founding principles of our Nation.   Psalm 11:3 says it all. “When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

May God have mercy on us and bring us to repentance of our evil ways. As usual, your questions and comments are most welcome.  You can email me at:
