Does God Give Everyone a ‘Fair Shake?’

   How many reading this have ever heard someone say, “They got what they deserved.”  In other words, to most of us human folks’ thinking, fairness means that everyone will pay for their wrong-doing. 

   A Cowboy might say that “It’ll come back and bite ya.” But if God were completely “fair” we would all have to spend eternity in hell paying for our sin because that is what we really deserve..  We reap what we have sown in life (Galatians 6:7).  Each and every one of us has sinned against God (Romans 3:23) and because of that sin,we all face eternal death (Romans 6:23). 

   Genuine fairness by God would mean eternity in the fires of hell (Revelation 20:14-15). But God did something merciful and good, by sending His own Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place, taking the punishment that we really “fairly” deserve (2 Corinthians 5:21). But because of God’s Agape love, all we need to do is repent of our old life and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and we will be saved, and we will receive an eternal home in heaven (John 3:16). 

   Only because of the sacrifice of Christ, God can remain completely “fair” when He deals with our sin. The Bible tells us that our God is also “Just.”
