A True Story of Hope, and Inspiration -- My Friend Eli

   Good things happen when one tells a story, and it’s even better when the story is true and personal. This is one of those stories . . .    

   In this world of ceaseless troubles and woe, it is refreshing to push aside the terrible things we hear about each day and experience some moments of true hope, and inspiration. Life is not always easy, and the trials and tribulations that many brave just to be with each other is enough to give anyone the shivers. 

   It seems as though I have always known Eli. We were in first grade together at the age of six at a small rural school in Mt Sterling. There were only five kids in our class, and our teacher taught all eight grades. Eli and I grew up together. We loved baseball and played on rural teams throughout our grade school careers. Eli was always better than me.  We entered high school in Gays Mills and played four years of ball with the legendary “Kickapoo Kids.”  The team set WIAA records that can never be equaled.   

   I never dated while I was in high school, I was too shy, but Eli did.  I remember the first time they met. We were sophomores, and rode on a school bus to school.
