Democracy or Republic?

Editor, Wisconsin Christian News:

   Almost daily, I hear newscasters use the terms, “our democracy,” and editorials using the same.  Well..... “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands!”

   The Founders of our country’s documents define us as a nation and binds us together as a people. America is the only nation in the world that is founded on a creed, in the declaration of Independence. It enunciates that all men are created equal by our Creator, and that government exists to give them justice, and their authority is for that very reason. (Ponder that for a moment.)

   Thomas Jefferson called it “unquestionably the wisest Constitution ever yet presented to men.”  More than two centuries after it’s ratification in 1789, it remains the oldest written national Constitution in continuous use in the world. We are a representative, constitutional REPUBLIC, not a democracy.

   Today, we are watching powerful individuals who want to disarm us, overtax us, stifle our speech, and limit our religion. It’s so important that each of us re-read the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution.  Our country is one of a kind.  It’s why so many want to come here.
