We continue in this month’s article with Myth #4 part 2: “Islam Oppresses Women and Forces Them into a Subservient Role.” (From “Myths and Facts about Muslim People and Islam” ADL.org) Previously in Part 8, we looked at many of “the facts” in the beginning paragraph of Myth #4 and will now continue with the other three portions of “facts” from that paragraph.
The Quran…instructs Muslims to educate daughters as well as sons, insists that women have the right to refuse a prospective husband, gives women the right to divorce in certain cases, etc.
Let’s examine the so-called “fact” in which the Qur’aninstructs Muslims to educate daughters as well as sons.Islam teaches that men and women are equal in seeking knowledge, but that is not what Mohammed taught. Amazingly, when Muslim organizations like the Taliban obey and practice the teachings of Mohammed by not allowing their female children to attend school but are instead to stay at their homes, as Allah teaches in Qur’an 33:33, the West judges the Taliban to be radical or extremist. However, in reality, they are true Muslim believers who obey Allah and Mohammed.
