A Dying Boy’s Wish and A Governor

Complimentary Story
A year ago in March of 2018, Rusty Thomas spoke at the Wisconsin Christian News Ministry Expo & Conference. The next day he spoke at our church to preach the Sunday morning service. He headed home after the service was over – not knowing what awaited him there.

His 16 year-old son, Jeremiah, had some problems with pain in his chest area after football season had ended. They all thought “maybe a minor injury that needs time to repair.” But it only became worse. When Rusty returned home, they took Jeremiah to the doctor and learned the devastating news that Jeremiah had a deadly form of bone cancer — with virtually no hope of recovery.

Jeremiah had experienced a renewal of faith in his life just seven months earlier, during an Operation Save America ministry effort in Louisville, Kentucky. He was on fire for Christ!

Since that time he had been rallying other young people to go out and preach the Gospel; to minister outside the deathcamps where the preborn are murdered; and to deepen their walks with the Lord through prayer and Bible reading. Now, it appeared the Lord had brought him to deep water.

Just three weeks after being diagnosed, the tumor in his chest became so constricted around his spinal column that he became paralyzed and could no longer walk. Jeremiah responded by telling his Dad and Mom – “I can still preach from my wheelchair!” And he did.

He still went out to the deathcamps to preach and demonstrate love to his preborn neighbor. He also had opportunity to preach at a couple of churches. News spread of his faithfulness to Christ in the midst of his situation. Hundreds of news stories were written. The faith of many who had grown lukewarm in Christ was renewed.

Through the “Make a Wish Foundation,” Jeremiah was given the opportunity to “make a wish.” Instead of choosing to visit a certain location or to meet someone famous, Jeremiah declared that his wish was to meet with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and appeal to him to interpose for the preborn and end abortion in Texas.

Miraculously and in the Lord’s providence, Governor Abbott called Jeremiah who was notified that the governor would be calling in five minutes. Jeremiah was weak and sick —  laying in his hospital bed. Yet when the governor called, he articulated clearly his wish for Governor Abbott to interpose for the preborn and “end abortion here and now” in the state of Texas.

Governor Abbott responded by stating:  “Your wish is on the Republican Party Platform positions and it’s what we’re going to be pursuing this next legislative session and that is to outlaw abortion altogether in the state of Texas. So your wish is granted.”  Jeremiah broke out into a smile that outshone the sun.

Jeremiah died and went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2018.

The legislative session has now begun in Texas and an effort is underway to assist Governor Abbott in fulfilling the wish he spoke to Jeremiah. Please go to: www.JeremiahsWish.org and watch the 3-minute video. Then sign the petition to Governor Abbott to fulfill Jeremiah’s wish. You do not have to be from Texas to sign the petition. And by signing, you strengthen Governor Abbott’s hand to interpose for the preborn in Texas.

Please, contact your pastor; have him watch the 3-minute video; and ask him if he would show it at church on Sunday or at least inform the congregation of it. After the video is shown, people can use their phones and sign the petition while sitting right there in church after viewing it.

At times, the Lord works in unimaginable ways in the affairs of men, and produces a great goodness. This situation is one of those times where we see the providence of the Lord addressing a great evil in such an unforeseen way. We have been given a rare opportunity here to speak up for our preborn neighbor and to help fulfill a dying boy’s wish.

May we not miss this.
