The American Church Has Lost its Way

   What is the defining quality of the American experiment? Individualism. Do what you want, be what you want, say what you want. It’s all about you. 

   Well, the Americanization of Christianity is nearly complete.

   Recently, CNN published a column entitled “Christianity’s Future Looks More Like Lady Gaga than Mike Pence.”  It was an opinion piece written as an affirming response to a recent outburst by pop culture icon Lady Gaga, in which she sharply criticized Vice President Mike Pence and his wife for their close affiliation with a private Christian school that prohibits LGBTQ students and parents.  In it, the author, a young, homosexual “Christian writer and activist,” praises the statements and actions of progressives like Lady Gaga and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the newly elected representative from New York, who has become the rising star of the Democratic Party for her views on socialism and equal rights, and attempts to demonstrate that it is views such as these held by people like this that are ushering in an innovative form of Christianity in the United States.
