The Sins of the Fathers (Genesis 4)

   How has man fared with the truth revealed to him? The next event of recorded history in Genesis Chapter 4, is of the first two children conceived by Adam and Eve.  “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she… bare Cain… And she again bare his brother Abel… And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.  And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and the fat thereof (obviously the sacrifice of a burnt offering with the fat thereof).  And the Lord had respect unto Able and to his offering: But unto Cain and his offering he had no respect.  And Cain was very (angry) and his countenance fell.”  

   Many have asked, because he must have brought the first and the best of his crops, was God being fair?  First, it does not say what Cain brought, but the fruit of the ground.  Second, it does not say why the Lord did not respect his offering, for it really doesn’t make any difference.  One thing is sure, God is always just and right, saying it was not acceptable! “And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth?  And why is thy countenance fallen?  If thou doest well (as God seems to imply Cain did know what he was referring to), shall thou not be accepted?  And if thou doest not well, (the temptation of) sin lieth at the door.  And unto thee shall be his desire (Satan like ...
