Chemicals in your home? There are many you may never have thought about as being deadly, toxic chemicals that cause harm to your health and all those who dwell within the walls of your home. I want to share some chemicals and information about them that may help you and your family for a healthier future. I will share now and throughout the months to come about the many toxins that are in our homes and some amazing organic, healthy ways to clean and deodorize throughout your home to help get rid of the toxic chemicals and materials that are stealing the health of your home.

Ammonia is a colorless gas in a liquid form used in homes in many cleaning products (ammonium hydroxide) that causes all kinds of damage to your eyes, skin, and respiratory passages. It was first isolated by Joseph Priestly in 1774 and the exact chemical formula was found by Claude-Louis Berthollet in 1785.

What are the immediate health effects of ammonia exposure? Inhalation: Ammonia is irritating and corrosive. Exposure to high concentrations of ammonia in the air causes immediate burning of the nose, throat, and respiratory tract. This can cause bronchiolar and alveolar edema, and airway destruction resulting in respiratory distress or failure. Inhalation of lower concentrations can cause coughing, and nose, and throat irritation. Ammonia’s odor provides adequate early warning of its presence, but ammonia also causes olfactory fatigue or adaptations, reducing awareness of one’s prolonged exposure at low concentrations.

Bleach is a very toxic chemical that was used during WWI for chemical warfare against American soldiers causing many deaths and illness. History tells us that the damage was extensive.

Babies, children, and pets are especially vulnerable because their immune systems cannot fight off the harsh chemicals of the bleach, but we are all at risk and so is our environment.  It causes so much damage to the eyes, lung, respiratory system, cause skin burns, asthma flares, extreme headaches, migraines, immune system issues, vomiting, etc. It is even more serious when bleach is mixed with vinegar or ammonia or any acid type cleaning material. These toxins can cause some very serious or deadly side effects when they are inhaled. It is also very dangerous to our environment and water systems.

Dioxin is one of the byproducts of bleach. They don’t break down easily and stay in our environment for a long time causing a lot of long-term damage. Researchers believe that dioxin contributes to cancers, endocrine disorders, and other serious health problems including breast cancer, low sperm count, and testicular cancer.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has banned the use of bleach in hospitals, schools, and restaurants, because of all the health hazards. We need to do the same thing, ban it from our homes, businesses, farms, etc.

H2O2 is something that can be used around your home and laundry to help you with cleaning and disinfecting jobs, but you need to use organic, chemical free H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide).  A simple recipe to use as an Oxygen Cleaner in a quart bottle is: 1/2 bottle of warm water, ½- 1 teaspoon of organic soap, a few drops to a dropper full (depending on the job and if blood is present) H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide), a little vinegar (a ½ teaspoon to start), and after shaking everything else, add ½ teaspoon of baking soda and close quickly! Make sure you have head space, then you can add more water after.

You can adapt this recipe for your own needs and each job. It is wonderful!
