Jesus, the Bread of Life

   Along with prayer and reading our Bibles my wife and I also have our own personal devotional that enriches our time spent with God each morning.

   For my wife it’s the Mornings With Jesus periodical written specifically for women by women. My choice is the Daily Bread devotional published by Our Daily Bread Ministries.  Starting each day with prayer and God’s Word provides spiritual nourishment that fuels our busy retirement years in service to the Lord.

   Jesus said in John 6:35:  “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
   My wife and I discovered long ago that just as we need bread and water and other food to satisfy our physical hunger and sustain our physical life, we also need nourishment to satisfy the spiritual needs of our soul. Time spent with Jesus and His Word each morning provides that resource.

   Both physical and spiritual nutrition are important because we become what we eat and drink. Just as we have a choice between healthy food and junk food for our bodies, we can chose to nourish our soul with God’s healthy promises or the world’s empty junk promises.
