Speaking – Colossians 4: 5-6

   In Colossians 4:2-4, Paul reminded the Colossians of the importance of prayer, requesting that they pray for him to have boldness to proclaim the truth of Christ.  Then, in verses 5-6, he reminds the believers at Colossae that they also had a responsibility to share this truth with those around them.  This is the Christian’s primary calling: to share the gospel with others and build them up in the Word of God.  But, there is a proper way to do it.  Without negating the responsibility to open one’s mouth and share the specific content of the truth, Paul focuses on the conduct and urgency to share in verses 5-6. 

   “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without.”

   This speaks of conduct toward the unbeliever (see also Ephesians 5:15-17).  Walking wisely is being fully aware of what people need the most; the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.  It tells of being prepared to share this truth with others.  It addresses knowing the culture in which you minister and the people to whom you are ministering.  It denotes the fact that we must be living godly in Christ Jesus, reflecting the very truths that we proclaim, not being conformed to the ways and attractions of the world, but being transformed by a renewed mind (Romans 12:2).  Prudent conduct will testify to the hope that is in you as you share that hope in a way that will reach others. &n ...
