When Do We Engage Your Church?

   I read a lot these days about Christians engaging the culture. Most of the encouragement revolves around abortion, the LGBTQ activists and in general, liberal politics.  Generally the call to cultural engagement is for good causes that seem to attract a good following of well meaning people. I also understand the problem of some churches taking positions that are contrary to Scripture. 

   I used to fill in for a preacher’s vacation every year at local denominational church. When a new preacher and the organization took the official position that all Scriptures pertaining to homosexuality were not applicable today, along with numerous other Scriptures, I resigned as their back up preacher. I knew and still know many people that attend that church. Some have been a part of our community for up to 80 or more years. Some of these people were conservative, good people.  So how does it happen that a long standing community church in a rural farm community turn so liberal that they start to remove parts of the Bible as pertaining to anyone today? How does a culture move so far away from the Biblical morals, ethics and values it was founded on?  I hope you take the answer I propose to heart, because it could be happening to your church, it could be happening to you.
