What About Christians Using Marijuana?

   Is smoking marijuana sinful? As marijuana becomes legal in more and more states, does that give Christians the “go-ahead” to use this drug?  If smoking marijuana becomes legal, is there still a moral  reason for Christians to avoid it? 

   The Apostle Paul told us to obey the laws of the nation for the common good of all as found in Romans 13:1, “Let every soul be subject to higher powers: for there is no power but from God: and those that are, are ordained of God.”  Laws such as our traffic laws are in place to protect people from accidents; laws such as the law requiring us to use seat belts are for our protection.  We may not like the inconvenience of having to buckle up, but it does save many lives each year. 

   Roe vs Wade made abortion “legal.”  But most Christians know it is morally wrong in the eyes of God.  Just because something is considered “legal” in our culture doesn’t mean it is morally correct according to the Bible. 

   Before the legalization of  marijuana pastors could tell people that “It’s illegal so obey the law.”  Now, if we live in Colorado or Washington and some other states that argument no longer applies.
