Public Libraries No Longer Safe For Children

   Have you heard of public library transgender/drag queen story times? Upsetting, absolutely and that’s why I’m writing about using alternative libraries. However before getting there, let me provide the background for my walking away from the Canadian public library system.

   The journey began when my local library had a Drag Queen Story Time.  As I discovered later, they were not alone; they were one on a list of more than 70 community libraries across Canada.  Being fair-minded, I let the librarian explain why they had invited a “drag queen  story time” to be held.  In my conversation with the librarian, I expressed a number of concerns regarding the content and suitability for young children; the necessity of having this type of story time; and, whether the person doing the story time had provided a vulnerable sector/criminal background check as is required in other organizations where individuals are working with children. 

   They assured me that they had done the necessary background check and they felt that these story times helped end “gender identity”  bullying for those under 16.  I also shared with them information regarding the fact that 84% of “transgender” kids who make the decision to transition when they are young, revert back to their biological sex when they get older.
