Why Won't People Get Involved?

Complimentary Story
Editor, Wisconsin Christian News:

Once again, after (finally) finishing my Wisconsin Christian News (it usually takes me about a week to read — and DIGEST — all of the incredible articles in it!)...  I thumbed back through it to see how many citizens had taken the time and effort to write a “letter to the editor,” either thanking, criticizing or questioning something they had read.  And, once again, to my dismay, I found only two such labeled letters.  Which leads me to wonder...if citizens can’t be bothered to write a letter to a Christian newspaper about events they claim to care about, how involved are they with the issues of the day,  such as “Drag queen story hours” at the local library, middle school kids getting caught selling (or using) “e-cigarettes” or other drugs, learning about “sex trafficking” by watching the people coming and going at your local truck stop, or learning that one of your local teachers had a “wear your hijab to school day”...(all events that have made regional news recently.)

I’ve been an election judge in my community for the last 15 years, and the number of people who willingly take the time to vote in our elections is heart-breakingly few!  In conversations with friends after elections, whether local or national, the number of reasons why people don’t vote makes me want to cry!  (But oh!  The discussions around the water-cooler at work about those who got elected, or the “measure” that didn’t pass or the tax increase that they’ll be paying after “that referendum!”)

So...we complain, blame those “lousy politicians” for doing nothing positive to change things, yet we don’t vote, we don’t write letters to our elected officials, school board members, local/state politicians, or even to the editors of our local newspapers!  And then we wonder why our taxes are so high, why our children aren’t learning what we think they should be learning, why they are committing suicide at alarming rates and why “new” leftist organizations like ANTIFA are terrorizing law-abiding citizens around our country!  Is it because you’re spending so many hours at work so you can earn more money to by more “stuff?” — bigger cars, houses, boats or cabins?  Or maybe take more exotic vacations, since “going to the cabin” has been replaced with “oh, we’ve been renting an ocean-side place on Maui” the last few years.

How much time do you spend in real conversation with your kids or your spouse?  Do you know how they feel about same-sex marriage?, the latest rage of “transgenderism,” abortion at any stage of development or even “socialism?”   How much time do you spend on your DEVICES?  (What do you think when you see your neighbor’s 6-year-old with a cellphone?

We look at suicide rates, at all ages and both sexes.  WHY are people deciding life isn’t worth living?  Do our pastors EVER preach on ANY of these things?  Why not?  What do YOU ever say to your pastor about suicide?  Or same-sex “marriage,” “transgenderism,” etc?

If you call yourself a Christian, you have an obligation to encourage your pastor/our churches, to TALK about these issues, and to GET INVOLVED on any level you can!  God expects us to be HIS voice to our children, the nation and the world.

When was the last time you wrote a letter to one of your elected officials?  A school board member?  Or the editor of this paper?  If not you, then WHO?  And who must take responsibility when evil prevails?
