God is sovereign over all the earth. That simply means that He is in control of things that happen. Satan is the counter force behind all evil, and God allows many things to happen at the instigation of Satan. As the evils increase, there is a deterioration that becomes self-destructive. While God is very good and sends rain on the just and unjust, He also cares about the advancement of evil and it’s affects on society. You cannot read far in the Bible without seeing that God is a God of judgment. The story of the Flood proves this. While God promises that He will never again destroy the earth with a flood, He does have His ways of bringing judgments on the earth.
In the last book of the Bible (Revelation) He gives one scene after another of His many judgments and it is all an effort to bring humanity to an awareness of who God is and what He desires of us, but it also shows that man, in the hardness of his heart, will not turn back to God. This is a sad commentary on the evilness of the human heart. However, there are a few who will turn to God when they are faced with death. The story following this article indicates that.
