Forgiveness, (Part 2): Sacrificial Coverings of the Law

   With the entrance of sin into God’s creation, there arose a necessity for a blood sacrifice to be offered as a covering for the sins of the individual.  This would keep them in a good standing with God. Abel, Abraham, Job, Esau, and Jacob all offered sacrifices to cover their sin. Sin was a big problem!  Imagine a loved one in your life being unfaithful day after day after day after day. It would take a great love to keep you from simply walking away. Thankfully, it is a great love that God has for us. 

   Let’s skip ahead to the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai and look at a passage after the people made and worshipped a golden calf at the base of the mountain. Exodus 32:30-33 records:

   “And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, ‘Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.’  And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, ‘Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.  Yet now, if Thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me, I pray Thee, out of Thy book which Thou hast written.’

   “And the LORD said unto Moses, ‘Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book.’”
